My Nigerian engagement ceremony br identity crisis

I am generally speaking for the belief that the wedding just isn’t constantly it should reflect you: your beliefs, your values, and your community about you, but. One of many reviews because that was one of our goals in planning the event that we heard most often about our wedding was: “It was so… you, ” and I loved it. I do believe for this reason, I struggled so much with my feelings concerning the Nigerian engagement ceremony that people had the week before our wedding. The event that is entire simply therefore perhaps not me personally, never.

This might be me right before the ceremony: unsure on how we appear and feel (and my power to walk in those heels). Picture by Genevieve Burruss. Please realize, whenever we state it was not “me, ” I don’t suggest because i am perhaps perhaps not Nigerian (although i am maybe perhaps maybe not). After all that the aesthetic was over-the-top and vibrant while We tend towards minimalist and quirky. I am talking about that there have been duplicated sources to spiritual opinions and social values that i actually do not share. After all that the (American) food had mushrooms with it (which I can’t stand) and also the accent color had been red (again, perhaps not a fan). I became in heels in the place of flats with earrings that hurt my ears, therefore we very nearly totally missed supper for a costume modification. (more…)
